ICOM Ukraine Announces Participation in the PRISM Project to Fight Illegal Trafficking of Cultural Goods

ICOM Ukraine is proud to announce its participation in the PRISM project—Prevention, Research, Investigation, and Security in Museums—implemented over three years by the Heritage Protection Department of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in Paris. This initiative includes ICOM Estonia, ICOM Hungary, ICOM Latvia, ICOM Lithuania, ICOM Slovakia, and the National History Museum of Romania.

The project, funded by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport, and Culture, aims to create practical tools to better understand and prevent illicit trafficking of cultural goods across Europe.

The segment of the project managed by ICOM Ukraine runs until December 2026. Under PRISM, ICOM Ukraine will lead and coordinate several activities in Romania, including developing methodological materials on heritage protection—especially paleontological heritage—preparing reports and informational resources on Ukraine’s endangered cultural heritage, and organizing workshops focused on fighting cultural goods trafficking.

Through these efforts, ICOM Ukraine reaffirms its dedication to protecting cultural heritage and increasing public awareness about the importance of preventing the illicit trafficking of cultural property.
